PA Contemporary’s Hanjo Schmidt picked in Sex Pistols’ Saatchi Top Ten

Hanjo Schmidt, recent winner of Geneva’s Park Art Fair, was picked by Sex Pistols veteran and Saatchi magazine curator, Glen Matlock in “Glen’s Picks”.

Schmidt is a modern realism portraitist who reviewers have invoked the late Lucien Freud to describe. The human body in Schmidt’s case is used to de-euphemize societal concepts of pornographication and to depict it as the skin subjective to the person represented in the portrait, thereby rendering nudity to its primal state of being first/projecting after, effecting a healthy reconditioning of constructs.

Glen Matlock is from the original line-up of the Seventies iconic UK punk band the Sex Pistols, put together by Malcolm McLaren. He penned the lyrics and music of the band’s classic songs together with Johnny Rotten. Saatchi Magazine is an online publication for art lovers that features thousands of artists, started by top art collector Charles Saatchi.

Since leaving the world of architecture, Schmidt has continuously garnered recognition. He spends his time between Stuttgart and New York, where he was awarded the 2006 NYFA (New York Foundation for the Arts) Fellowship in Painting. He is represented in North America by Pharand Art Contemporary.
